Was on nights, we had a TV and watched the whole thing unfold live, first reports were that the accident wasn't serious

Made coffee, then turned on BBC World which had the BBC1 content. Said Diana had been injured. One reporter said the lack of news from the hospital made him think something bad may be afoot. Then - I think it was Martyn Lewis - said that she was dead. Could not believe it. Total shock.

Got up early on the Sunday morning to watch the replay of MOTD as had been out Sat night.

West Ham 3 Wimbledon 1
Hartson , Reiper & Berkovic in a dominant performance that saw us go 3rd and put Wimbledon last.
3 goals in the first 10 mins of the second half before a late consolation.

SURELY HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS MATCH SHOULD FINALLY BE SHOWN IN TRIBUTE?

I pulled a right cracker the night before and she woke me up telling me the news.

I was gutted. I was expecting some morning action but she didn't fancy it after this

Think it was one of the times when I realised I just didn't understand 'people'.
I was one who thought she was just some Sloane airhead who people would be sad to see die in such a way but no more.
Was genuinely gobsmacked that some people (many people) saw as some living saint who was the most important public figure in the world
To be honest I still don't quite get it

Re: Diana 20 years on
Sven, not because she was a saint, but because she was part of the national consciousness. She was the leading star in the Royal Family's soap opera and sold newspapers.
